Bumpy Road

Dear Fans,
Your team just got back from sunny Orlando, Florida and was greeted to a blizzard. I'm just glad we made it back safely to CLAY COUNTY. It was really nice to get away for a week and spend time with the team and parents. Our first match was against G-Town college located in Kentucky early Monday morning. We ended up coming away with one of the biggest victories the program has had in years. We started off playing singles first which ended up to our advantage. Chris and Brandon won soundly while Taylor and I had to work hard in the third set to come away with a victory. All we needed was one doubles win to seal the victory and put all of the "Vamoses!" away for good. A fired up Kyster and I got the win in dubs and the team won 5-4. Our next match was up against a tough Oklahoma Baptist College. We ended up not winning a single match and came up with a disappointing hard lose. The same went for our next two matches where we went down 0-9 against Shorter College of Georgia and 2-6 against Weber of Florida. Even though it didn't mean much in the end Kyle L. and I had a big win in number two doubles and Chris came up HUGE in a third set tie breaker and wiped the smirk off his opponents face. I do have to give an award out to Shorter College for having the coolest/most unique names of a team we have ever played against. Not only were the last names almost impossible to pronounce but some of the names on the list included Bastion, Borat, and my favorite Coco Fire!!!
The trip was fantastic and I think the entire team had a great time. The resort was incredible and a huge thank you goes out to the alumni who helped make the trip possible. Finally a special thanks goes out to all the parents who cooked, cleaned, and cheered for us no matter what. Our next match is Saturday morning at home at 10:00 and we hope to see you there.

Disappointment

Dear Fans,
Yesterday your team suffered its first lose of the season. After a 6-0 start we went down to Ferris State 7-2. The 44th ranked team in Division II out played us and it shows that we still have a lot of work to be done. Cody and Taylor came out with a big win at number 1 doubles but our number 2 and 3 teams couldn't pull out the tight matches. Taylor was also our only win in singles as the rest of us definitely had an off day. The cards didn't fall our way on crucial points and we let to many opportunities slip away from us. We are trying to squeeze in an outdoor practice sometime this week if the rain decides to agree before we head to Orlando for spring break. Thanks for all your support and we won't let you down in Florida.

Spicin' It Up Some

Dear Fans,
Due to viewer comments and feedback I have decided to "Spice" up the blogs from now on and give it a little more flair since they can apparently be viewed as sometimes "boring".
The William Jewell men's tennis team ran a train this weekend at the expense of Tabor College and Friends University. After a short scenic detour of Kansas that was not expected we finally arrived at our destination and ready to do some damage on the court. Tabor College was no match for us as we beat them 8-1 and it didn't get much better for Friends as they also went down 8-1.
The two matches in a nutshell are as follows: Cody pulled out a huge third set tiebreaker after his opponent sat in a tree for the entire second set, Brandon did what he does best (which is winning) in case you didn't know, Taylor took care of business quick with his big serve and punishing forehand, Lehenbauer had cat like reflexes at the net and dropped bombs on his serve, Chris or should I just refer to him from now on as Marat Safin? I think I will. Well he played just like him this weekend except for Chris could actually win a tennis match unlike his idol. Chad Kirkland sported a sweet Jewell jacket from the 80's and played like Sampras in the 90's. Holt took care of doubles quick and Jake received inspiration from the greatest tennis cover of all time.
If I could sum this weekend up in one word it would be dominance. Thanks for the support we love you all and leave a comment as to whether or not you like the new "Spice" to the blog.

Home Court Advantage

Your William Jewell men's tennis team got another win under their belt Sunday afternoon. We beat Bethel College 7-2 at Clayview to improve to 4-0 on the year. We faultered early by going down 1-2 in doubles but came back by winning all six singles matches. As was expected we had great support from parents and fans, thank you very much for coming to the match. The team goes outdoors for the first time this year on Friday when we face Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas and Friends University in Wichita. We hope to see you all there and again thanks for all your support.
